Os artistas já confirmados no VMA 2020 deste ano foram: BTS, Doja Cat, J Balvin, CNCO, Maluma, Roddy Ricch e The Weeknd. Valorizando a diversidade, o evento contemplará o pop, reggaeton, hip-hop, K-pop e R&B.

Recentemente, foram divulgadas as mudanças no evento devido às adaptações à pandemia do coronavírus. Antes, as apresentações seriam realizadas no Barclays Center, Brooklyn, mas agora serão espalhadas por locais ao ar livre da cidade de Nova York.
